HAPPY ACCEPTANCE OF THE 12 MARCH INTERNATIONAL ANTHEM
March 12, 1921 is the date when our National Anthem, the eternal symbol of the Turkish nation’s struggle for independence and freedom, was adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This epic poem, written by our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, symbolizes the spirit of the Turkish people full of sacrifice, courage and love of the homeland during the period of national struggle. The Independence Anthem is not only a national anthem, but also a torch of our nation’s fire of independence that will never go out. Today, on the anniversary of the acceptance of this great work, we underline that our nation will walk towards the future in unity and solidarity, with hope and determination, and we express our respect, gratitude and mercy to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the author of our National Anthem, and all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the national struggle. We commemorate.
